Martial Arts Training Institute was opened in 2009 by Don Newell and Irwin Carmichael. Don Newell has been the primary instructor since 2009, and as his kids got older, they became primary instructors as well. Now the school is run by Don and his daughter Eliza, alongside his son Ellis. Starting Karate in his teenager years, Don has many years of experience, while Ellis and Eliza have done Martial Arts their entire life, while also cross training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and many other styles used in MMA.

Our goal is to bring REAL Martial Arts to the South Charlotte area. We believe that the environment where Martial Arts is taught is PERFECT to help our young students improve on VITAL character traits such as Respect, Honesty and Confidence! We help students at any stage, from kids with NO prior athletics experience, to our competition team, that competes in local tournaments such No Gi Jiu Jitsu!
